Holiday accommodation in Madeira for a month or longer

Compare holiday accommodation in Madeira for a longer stay: hotels, serviced apartments, monthly rentals, leases, and coliving, with a total-cost checklist.

Holiday accommodation in Madeira for a month has to support ordinary workdays as well as the trip itself. Hotels, apartments, leases, and colivings divide privacy, service, paperwork, workspace, and shared life differently, so the cheapest search result rarely gives you the full comparison.

Compare what the month will cost and feel like once work, transport, food, cleaning, and cancellation terms are included.

The five main accommodation formats

Hotel or aparthotel

A hotel is easy for a short arrival, a work trip, or a few nights while you inspect longer options. Reception, housekeeping, and predictable service reduce friction. The weaknesses appear over a month: limited kitchen access, small work surfaces, laundry costs, and a daily rhythm built for visitors rather than normal life.

An aparthotel can solve the kitchen problem. Check whether the “desk” is a dining ledge, whether the advertised Wi-Fi reaches the unit, and whether cleaning and linen changes are part of the monthly rate.

Serviced holiday apartment

A furnished apartment is the obvious choice for privacy. It works well for a couple, someone who needs silence, or a person who already has a social network on the island.

For a longer booking, confirm the total price, electricity policy, cleaning frequency, laundry, internet speed, deposit, cancellation terms, and whether the building has construction or short-stay turnover. Ask for a photo of the exact work surface and chair. “Laptop-friendly” is not a measurement.

Monthly platform rental

Large booking platforms show inventory and reviews, but monthly discounts do not make every listing suitable for a working month. Compare the final checkout price, not the rate shown in search. Read recent reviews for internet, noise, damp, heating, parking, and host responsiveness.

Do not transfer money outside the platform to unlock a special discount from a new contact. Use the platform’s payment protection until you have verified the property and contract.

Residential lease or sublet

A lease is appropriate when you are moving rather than visiting. It may require a longer commitment, deposit, references, tax identification, utility setup, or a contract in Portuguese. The rules differ from holiday accommodation, and the owner should be able to explain the legal basis of the rental.

Portugal’s official tourism register can help verify registered tourist accommodation where that regime applies. The Turismo de Portugal register was checked on 14 August 2026. It does not replace reading the contract or proving who has authority to rent a residential property.

Coliving

Coliving combines a furnished private room with shared facilities and a community layer. The exact bundle varies. Some include an in-house coworking area; some rely on room desks; some include cleaning; some do not; and community can mean anything from optional plans to a set programme.

Use the coliving Madeira comparison to inspect location, minimum stay, workspace, inclusions, and community without relying on a brittle operator ranking.

Compare the full monthly cost

Build a simple worksheet with these lines:

  • accommodation checkout total;
  • utilities and internet;
  • deposit or card hold;
  • cleaning and linen;
  • laundry;
  • coworking if you want it;
  • groceries and eating out;
  • local transport;
  • rental car days, fuel, insurance, and parking;
  • booking fees and foreign-exchange costs;
  • cancellation exposure.

A furnished room with a higher headline rate can cost less than an apartment once electricity, reliable internet, cleaning, and workspace are added. The reverse can also be true if you value privacy and do not use the bundled community or services.

Rates change with the month, location, view, cancellation policy, and remaining inventory. Compare live checkout totals for the same dates and terms.

Choose the right part of Madeira

Funchal is the easiest base for restaurant choice, urban buses, shopping, and city nights. The trade-offs are traffic, a busier centre, and steep neighbourhoods.

Ponta do Sol offers a smaller, walkable village routine on the southwest coast. It suits a longer stay when quiet evenings, work, sea access, and an available community matter more than urban variety.

Machico and Santa Cruz give easier airport and east-island access. Caniço sits between the airport and Funchal. Calheta offers southwest access with a more spread-out pattern. São Vicente and the north coast suit people prioritising green landscapes and north-side routes, with a different weather profile.

The Ponta do Sol versus Funchal comparison is the quickest next read if the two main remote-work bases are competing in your head.

Check work conditions before paying

For a working month, request specifics:

  1. A current speed test from the unit or room.
  2. A photo showing the desk, chair, power sockets, and daylight.
  3. The normal daytime and nighttime noise.
  4. Whether calls can be taken without using a shared dining table.
  5. The mobile coverage or backup plan during an outage.

If the listing cannot answer those questions, assume the workspace is unverified. A sea view does not rescue a month of shoulder pain or dropped calls.

Banana House has 200+ Mbps fibre, a real desk and chair in every room, and additional work areas. Cowork Ponta do Sol is an optional extra and is not included in the stay.

Understand what community includes

Coliving copy can make ordinary shared space sound like a guaranteed social outcome. Look for concrete behaviour instead: how plans are proposed, whether someone supports the community, and whether joining is optional.

At Banana House, the stay includes community support and organised opportunities to cook, eat, and explore together. Activities are optional. Groceries, restaurant meals, and paid excursions are separate personal costs.

Banana House as a monthly option

Banana House is a year-round coliving in Ponta do Sol with seven rooms. It is normally designed around one-month or longer stays. Current monthly prices start at €997 and range from €997 to €1,327. Two-month stays receive 10% off; stays of three months or longer receive 20% off.

The rate includes the furnished room, utilities, Wi-Fi and work setup, linens and towels, cleaning, shared kitchen, community support, and organised opportunities to cook, eat, and explore together. It does not include groceries, restaurant meals, flights, insurance, personal expenses, paid excursions, or optional coworking membership.

Compare the rooms against an apartment’s full checkout cost rather than comparing one headline number with another.

Before you book

Save the listing, inclusions, cancellation policy, and payment receipt. Confirm the exact room or unit, arrival process, and provider contact through the official booking channel.

Finally, choose for the routine you expect to have. A month of concentrated work and village life calls for a different base from a seven-day sightseeing holiday. The best accommodation is the one that makes ordinary Tuesdays work.

Browse the where-to-stay pillar for the rest of the island choices, then price the same dates and inclusions side by side.
